The Story of Dark and Lovely
When I was just a little girl, I remember seeing pictures of my grandmother, her sisters, and their father's side of the family. The women were extremely gorgeous to behold and very eye catching. After looking at their images and glancing at their physical beauty, I quickly realized that I did not have a light skin complexion; therefore, I felt less fortunate. One day, I was low in heart. I went to my grandmother and I told her that I wished that I had a lighter skin color and hair just like hers. My grandmother replied, "Oh no! You are a pretty brown skinned girl just like my mother was. A brown skinned woman is the most beautiful woman in the world!" At that moment, my life changed forever because of my grandmother's response.
"I am Dark, but Lovely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon"
